Our Union Is Really In A State
Just How Strong Is It, Really?
The president claimed last night that the "state of our union is strong and together we will make it stronger." But how strong is it truly? And how can this president who has polarized this country bring us together to make us stronger? He said "we show compassion abroad", yet we have turned our backs on aids in Africa, and we have secret torture prisons throughout Europe.
Under George W. Bush the rich have gotten richer, our middle class has gotten fewer and our poor have increased, yet the president said the economy is strong.
The middle class is weakened and struggleing while the working poor lose hope due to the continuous cuts in social programs to help American citizens who want to work, who are working more than one job, who want a better education to have a better future. These programs cuts hurt the majority of Americans while the tax cuts for the wealthy help the minority of Americans. Under George W. Bush our rich have gotten richer, our middle class has gotten fewer and our poor have increased.
And our state of the union is good.
The Economy: More historical gains and loses that hurt America under the W administration:
Exxon/Mobil posts historical profits, the HIGHEST NET PROFITS IN U.S. HISTORY for an American company while the prices at the pumps soar, and the middle and lower classes struggle to fill their tanks in order to go to work, or worse yet, to try and find work...and our state of the union is strong.
Our trade deficit is historically high, the worst trade deficit in U.S. History, our National Debt is historically and outrageously high, two extremely important deficits that this administration has caused and allowed; debt that will without question turn around and cripple our economy, and yet this president claims that our state of the union is strong.
"Budget to Hurt Poor People on Medicaid, Report Says"
"Millions of low-income people would have to pay more for health care under a bill worked out by Congress, and some of them would forgo care or drop out of Medicaid because of the higher co-payments and premiums, the Congressional Budget Office says in a new report. The Senate has already approved the measure, the first major effort to rein in federal benefit programs in eight years, and the House is expected to vote Wednesday, clearing the bill for President Bush."
9/11 Commission gives F's and D's to the Bush administration and stated that we are not safer now than five years ago.
Though contrary to this administration and with the manipulation of fear, a tatic that they have mastered, we are told we are protected.
The men who organized the horrid attacks against humanity on September 11, (that never included Saddam Hussein nor anyone in Iraq), are alive and well and continuing to plot against us.The Washington Post reports that one of Bin Laden's most improtant men was released.
"For more than a decade, Osama bin Laden had few soldiers more devoted than Abdallah Tabarak... During the battle of Tora Bora in December 2001, when al Qaeda leaders were pinned down by U.S. forces, Tabarak sacrificed himself to engineer their escape. He headed toward the Pakistani border while making calls on Osama bin Laden's satellite phone as bin Laden and the others fled in the other direction.
Tabarak was captured and taken to the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he was classified as such a high-value prisoner that the Pentagon repeatedly denied requests by the International Committee of the Red Cross to see him. Then, after spending almost three years at the base, he was suddenly released."And we are to feel secure and safer under George W. Bush. And our state of the union is secure.
Americans die daily in Iraq.Americans are severely injured daily in Iraq, In a war with no end in sight,In a war that like Vietnam is unwinnable and should never have been waged;A war that will only go down in world history as infamey. And we are to trust our government. Our government who is spying on its own citizens without due cause, without warrants, without permission from the courts
and yet we are told our state of the union is good.
The corruption in government is cancerous.
"Government for the people and by the people." Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay indicted; VP Cheney's cheif of staff, Scotter Libby indicted; President Bush's Cheif of Staff Karl Rove Investigated; Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist investigated; Ohio GOP Congressman Nay Investigated; California GOP Congressman Noland Indicted/Resigned; Lobbyist Jack Abramoff Indicted, "Kenny Boy" Lay, as President Bush affectionaltely calls him, indicted. Lay was one of the members of Dick Cheney's Energy group that helped form our current Energy policy under this administration. Memos state that President Bush was warned about Hurricane Katrina two days before the levees broke but remained on his ranch for vacation and refuses to release the documents claiming national security; President Bush was given a breifing from the CIA regarding an Al Qaeda attack in August 2001 and he claims he had no idea of knowing the attacks were going to occur and remained on his ranch for vacation; Governor Schwarzenegger staying in a five star hotel that was paid for by lobbyists, no indictment but highly unethical...
And our state of the union is good.
The administration that underestimates
The administration admits it underestimated the terroist group Hamas, it underestimated the strength of the insurgents in Iraq, it understimated the force of Hurricane Katrina, it underestimated the peril of the people of Louisiana desparately trying to survive the hurricane...It underestimated the CIA brief: "Al Qaeda to attack inside America."
and yet our president is proud of his accomplishments.
Abraham Lincoln once said,"Teach hope to all, and dispare to none." That is not what this Republican president teaches.
And our state of the union is good.
The most outrageous point
Perhaps the most outrageous point, the point that hurts America the most, is that America is not outraged. The American people allow themselves to be fooled that our state of the union is good. That the war in Iraq is being won by the U.S., That the world does trust us, that this administration is helping its citizens to achieve a better life through funding education, health care, securing social secruity, that this outrageously staggering national debt will not be our economic downfall, that by ease dropping on its citizens this administration is making us freer. And that we are a better nation and a safer nation than we were five years ago.
Shame on our government. Shame on us.
