Former White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater criticized Vice President Dick Cheney Tuesday for delaying the release of information about his hunting accident on Saturday, saying Cheney "ignored his responsibility to the American people." He told E&P he was "appalled by the whole handling of this."

"The responsibility for handling this, of course, was Cheney's," Fitzwater, who served as presidential press secretary for George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan, told E&P in a phone interview from his Maryland home. "What he should have done was call his press secretary and tell her what happened and she then would have gotten a hold of the doctor and asked him what happened. Then interview [ranch owner] Katharine Armstrong to get her side of events and then put out a statement to inform the public.

More Questions Raised About Delay in Reporting Cheney Misfire

By Greg Mitchell
February 13, 2006 10:20 PM ET updated Monday

The more than 18-hour delay in news emerging that the vice president of the United States had shot a man, sending him to an intensive care unit with his wounds, grew even more curious Monday with word from the White House that President Bush had been informed of the incident Saturday but not immediately about Dick Cheney's role.

Earlier, E&P had learned that the official confirmation of the shooting came about only after a local reporter in Corpus Christi, Texas, received a tip from the owner of the property where the shooting occurred and called Vice President Cheney's office for confirmation.

The confirmation was made but it is not known for certain that Cheney's office, the White House, or anyone else intended to announce the shooting if the reporter, Jaime Powell of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, had not received word from the ranch owner.

Abramoff Did Meet with Bush Many Times

Ah yes, our dear dishonest president once again is caught telling yet another lie. This time it is about meeting, greeting, inviting and receiving $$$ from the infamous dirty dealer, Jack Abramoff.

Though Bush & Co. have denied repeatedly that he NEVER met Mr. Abramoff, Mr. Abramoff himself tells the opposite. Not only does Abramoff say that he has met Bush many times but has also given the Bush re-election campaign $100,000.00.

I guess all the drug and alcohol abuse that George Jr. did in his earlier days has taken a toll on his memory.

The New York Times reports...

The disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff told a magazine editor in recent days that he had met with President Bush many times and was invited to the president's Texas ranch for a gathering of campaign contributors in 2003, the editor said Thursday.

...According to the messages, Mr. Abramoff wrote that he was invited to Mr. Bush's ranch in Crawford, Tex., in 2003 for a gathering of fund-raisers...

In one message, Mr. Abramoff is reported as saying that Mr. Bush had "one of the best memories of any politician I have ever met" and that "he saw me in almost a dozen settings and joked with me about a bunch of things, including details of my kids."
